Can I get an extra engraving on my Vedder & Vedder jewellery item?

If you have left some empty space on your jewellery item, or if there is space on the back of the item we can of course check to see whether it is possible to add an extra engraving. Please contact our Customer Service via Live Chat or WhatsApp 020 26 14 626 to discuss this.

What kind of materials does Vedder & Vedder use for their jewellery?

925 Sterling Silver
Silver comes in different standards of purity. We use 925 silver, also known as Sterling Silver. Silver is an alloy which means it is made up of 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper and brass. Silver can sometimes oxidise (discolour), as a result of exposure to air/creams/perfumes, etc.

Gold Plated
In this case the base material is silver. This is then covered with a thin layer of 14K gold. Please take note: the gold plate is just a thin layer which could wear away over time.

Gold Filled
The base material is brass or copper with a layer of real gold mixed in, making it less prone to wearing away. The jewellery will not discolour.

14K Yellow/White/Rose Gold/585
At Vedder & Vedder we work with 14K gold. Yellow gold is an alloy containing
58.5% gold, supplemented with silver and copper.

9K Yellow/White/Rose
A 9K piece of jewellery contains a smaller amount of gold (37.5% purity) than a 14K gold piece (58.5% purity), but this reduced purity is compensated by its toughness and affordability. Due to its relatively low cost and high durability, 9K jewellery is a good alternative for our more expensive 14K gold line.

Do gold plated items discolour with time?

We would like to remind you that, despite the double thickness being gilded, you have to wear the jewellery with care. It is important to be aware of the following information regarding any gold-plated item:

- A thin layer of 14 carat gold is applied to a ring with a base which is completely
solid 925 silver.
- The thickness of the gold layer is 3 microns.
- This layer is not resistant to creams, perfume, water, etc. Try to avoid exposure to these when wearing the jewellery.
- The acidity of your skin and perspiration can also have an effect on the plate layer.

This information can also be found on our website.

What is the difference between 9k and 14k gold?

A 9K piece of jewellery contains a smaller amount of gold than a 14K golden piece. Due to its relatively low cost, 9K jewellery is a good alternative for our more expensive 14K gold line. Neither material is likely to discolour.
